Excavation and Site Work Services in the Comox Valley

Straight answers on what a site needs, what it costs, and which approvals apply — before a machine rolls onto the property.

Courtenay Excavating runs four service lines across the Comox Valley: site preparation, land clearing, driveway access, and drainage and trenching. Most projects use two or three together — a building pad needs a drain, a new lot needs clearing before grading, and an acreage needs an access road before anything else can reach the site. Project ranges run $3,000 to $20,000 depending on scope.

01Sequence

Scope overlaps constantly in this trade. Quoting the pieces separately usually costs more than quoting them together, because a trench opened once serves two purposes and a machine mobilized once covers both.

Which service applies

Starting a build on a bare lot usually runs clearing first, then site preparation, then drainage, then the driveway last so nothing heavy chews it up before the build is finished.

Working on an established property usually reverses that order. The drain is the failure being fixed, the driveway is the thing that has worn out, and clearing is limited to whatever is in the way.

Rural acreages are the exception. Access comes first, because nothing else can happen until a machine and a truck can reach the work.

Address, scope, and rough timing are enough for a first range. Drawings help but are not required.
